Suppliers and contractors/developers

Corio seeks to maintain high quality in its centres and so insists on its suppliers meeting certain standards. These standards also take account of the wishes and requirements of its tenants. When awarding contracts Corio thus bases its decisions on:

Its wish to optimise the balance between price and quality by:
critical selection of contractors;
taking advantage of economies of scale in purchasing;
operating careful tendering procedures;
setting quality criteria.
The need to communicate the Corio formula to suppliers and ensure they understand the importance not only of performing the contract properly, but also of having a customer-friendly approach, both to retailers and consumers, when working at the centres.

Corio’s facility management in the business units is responsible for maintaining contacts with suppliers. These teams are also responsible for communicating details of Corio’s environmental standards (for waste, water and the use of materials) and social standards (policies for the workforce and efforts to limit disturbance for the neighbourhood) to new and existing suppliers.

Contractors and developers are important stakeholders for Corio. As well as working with them on developing and redeveloping shopping centres, we also work with them in the field of CSR. This is reflected in the environmental standards set for energy installations and water-saving equipment and also in the decisions taken on roofing materials and high-yield glass when shopping centres are being built or refurbished. The business units’ management and project managers are responsible for translating these requirements into practice. Our aim for the future is to increase our CSR collaboration with this group of stakeholders.
